In 2002, Tom and I set a goal for me
to win the 2003 B.C.A. Women's Open Singles Division held in Las Vegas, NV. Once
a week, Tom gave me lessons and a practice routine. I did all of his assignments
and tracked my progress. Everyone has noticed a huge improvement in my game over
the past year. My high run with 15 balls scattered on the table went from
25 to 92. My highest consecutive run in 9-ball went from one and a half to
over five racks without a miss. So when I arrived at the B.C.A. Nationals,
I was prepared. I won the tournament with flying colors in a 497 person playing
field. There was only one person who got more than 2 games from me in a
match. Most of the scores were 4-0 and 4-1. I never would have won that
tournament if I didn't have Tom Ross as a coach.
Something that sets him apart from other instructors is that he is dedicated
to the student's comprehension of the material. He doesn't just give you a
memorized talk, he helps you as an individual, diagnoses your needs, and
helps you work on the things that specifically help your game. On many
occasions, I've seen him go out of his way to help people with a shot or
generously offer advice to someone struggling. He is an asset to this
industry not only because he is an excellent player but because he is a
great teacher. He is very knowledgeable, patient, and easy to understand. I
believe that over half the people who play at
[Skylark Lounge] are there because
of him. He draws people to this game like a powerful magnet.
